PCMCIA to USB 2.0 Adapter

เนื่องด้วย Laptop น้อยๆของข้าพเจ้ามี USB มาให้แค่ 2 Port จะใช้งานบางทีก็ไม่สะดวกนัก เสียบ Mouse / Thumbdrive / iPod / Nokia Charger / Bluetooth Charger หรือจะต่อ Nokia 3110C ผ่านสาย USB ก็ต้องสลับไปๆมาๆ จนมาวันนึง น้องที่ทำงานบอกว่ามี PCMCIA to USB2.0 ขายอยู่ด้วย

วันนี้พอดีหยุด เลยขับรถไปพันทิพย์พลาซ่า เดินหาซะหน่อย.. เดินไปเดินมา มีร้านขายของแบบนี้ไม่กี่ร้าน แล้วก็มีแต่ร้านขายของใส่กะบะ ที่มีขายอุปกรณ์แบบนี้ แถมสภาพก็เก่าซะ แบบว่า ซื้อมาสามปีแล้วยังขายไม่หมด ว่างั้น

แต่ยังไงมาถึงพันทิพย์แล้ว ก็ต้องหาของถูกสุดให้ได้ เพราะดูแล้วก็มีแค่ยี่ห้อเดียว ซื้อร้านไหนก็คงไม่ต่างกัน เจอร้านสุดท้าย ราคาถูกที่สุด อ่ะ ก็เลือกละ เปิดกล่องนู้น กล่องนี้ดูเรื่อยๆ หาตัวที่น่าจะไม่เสีย ( -_- ของแบกะิดิน ไม่มีประกัน ซื้อแล้วเสียก็คงซวยเอง) ยังไงก็ต้องเลือกให้ดี

ชิ้ง... เปิดไปเปิดมา ไปเจอ Adaptec ตัวนี้เข้า .. USB2connect for Notebooks



เย้ย ไอ้ตัวนี้น่าจะดีนะ ถ้าเป็นของ Adaptec จริงๆก็ดีเลย หยิบมาพิจารณาดูใกล้ๆ อืมม น่าจะของจริง.. ก็เลยสรุปว่า เอากล่องนี้แหละ



รูปนี้เป็นรูปกล่องจริงๆ .. ไปเอามาจากเวบต่างประเทศ ส่วนไอ้ตัวนี้ คาดว่าคงมีคนเอามาขายเลหลัง แล้วร้านพวกนี้ก็เลยเอามาใส่กล่องเน่าๆ ขายต่ออีกรอบ

หลังจากซื้อแล้ว จ่ายเงิน ก็มีความกังวลอีกอย่าง คือถ้าเสียบไปแล้ว เกิดต้องเสียบไฟเพิ่ม ก็เจ๊ง เพราะไม่มี port USB ให้เสียบ กลับมาถึงบ้านก็ลองด้วยอาการลุ้น

ผลปรากฏว่า พอเสียบไปก็ใช้ได้ไม่มีปัญหา ไม่ต้องใช้ Driver ด้วย เสียบปุ๊บใช้ได้เลย :D

iPod กับภาษาไทย

พึ่งรู้ว่า iPod Nano ใหม่มาพร้อมกับ Firmware ที่ Support ภาษาไทยเลยในตัว...
ก็เลยเดินไปถามพนักงานที่ร้าน iStudio ว่าแล้ว iPod Nano รุ่นเก่าล่ะ ว่ายังไง
ก็ได้รับคำตอบว่า ไม่มีภาษาไทยครับ
กลยุทธ์ทางการตลาดก็แบบนี้ ช่วยไม่ได้จริงๆ ถ้าทำภาษาไทยให้รุ่นเก่า คนก็จะพอใจและไม่ซื้อรุ่นใหม่อีก
แต่ถ้าไม่ทำ ก็จะมีหน้ามืดส่วนนึง ยอมซื้อรุ่นใหม่ เพื่อให้อ่านชื่อเพลงภาษาไทยได้ .. ซึ่งก็เชื่อว่าน่าจะมีพอสมควรด้วย บังเอิญว่าตัวเองไม่ค่อยได้ฟังเพลงไทย เลยไม่เดือดร้อน -_-" รอดไปนะเนี่ย แต่จะว่าไป iPod U2 ก็ flash firmware ไทยไปแล้วนี่หว่า ฮ่ะๆๆ
ว่าแต่ เท่าที่ดูแนวโน้ม ราคา iPod ชุดนี้ เปิดตัวด้วยราคาถูกลงมาก เช่น iPod Nano 16 G ราคา 8 พันกว่า, iPod Classic 120G ราคา 9990 บาท

ซึ่งก็เป็นเรื่องดีสำหรับผู้บริโภค..
ไว้รอมี iPod U2 Classic ออกใหม่ แล้วค่อยว่ากันนะ :P

CSI

ใช้เวลาเป็นปี กว่าจะมาถึงจุดนี้ได้
ตอนนี้ดู CSI ครบทุกภาคทุกตอนแล้ว ทั้ง CSI : Las Vegas 8 Season , CSI : Miami 6 Season, CSI : New York 4 Season รวมแล้ว 18 Season ประมาณ 410 ตอน ..
หลังจากนี้ก็ไล่ดูตามที่เค้าฉายในอเมริกาไปเรื่อยๆได้แล้ว แต่ว่าดันมีเรื่องให้เซ็งอีก คือ Gil Grissom จะเลิกแสดงซะแล้ว .. เสียใจนะเนี่ย ถ้าไม่มี Grissom แล้ว จะยังเป็น CSI : Las Vegas อยู่ได้ยังไง แล้วคนที่จะมาแทนคือ Laurence Fishburn จาก The Matrix ไม่รู้จะเป็นยังไงเหมือนกัน

ทั้ง Sara, Warrick, Grissom ... เฮ้อ... เปลี่ยนไปหมดแล้ว..

Plantronics Discovery 925 #3

There's update I would like to let you know...
I've found one more variable to bluetooth quality. It's called 'Bluetooth Profile'.
To make it easier to understand, think of version. The phone I use is O2 Stealth which has Bluetooth profile version 1.2. It's kinda old...
Then I switch to use another phone, Nokia 3110C which has Bluetooth profile version 2.0 + EDR. I can feel the call quality is better. And no, the high frequency noise cancellation problem doesn't go away. It still existed.

So, in conclusion, a phone with bluetooth profile version 2.0 + EDR will help improve quality of your bluetooth headset.

Plantronics Discovery 925 #2

After a week, I've some update on pros and cons.

Pros.
- Fitting extremely well with my ears. I can even jump while wearing the headset, and it still hold.
- The sound quality on hearing side is very good, as good as 855 is.
- The battery can last about 3 days with normal talking ( approximately 30-45 minutes per day )
- Can use anywhere.. on Bus / Skytrain / Tube / Sidewalk / Department Store . I mean I can get decent conversation everywhere.

Cons
- The sound isolation can not filter high frequency background noise well. And it will torture person who you talking to ( such as door closing alert sound of BTS/MRT .. beep beep beep !, also turnstile error beep)
- The charging PIN is defected by design. You have to be VERY CAREFUL when plug charger into the earpiece. I've broke mine with my first charge. I already took it to fix at plantronics customer care. And guess what, I'm not the first person who broke it. Let's me explain ..
Let's say there're 5 pins

The first four pins are attached together, the last pin doesn't.
When you plug in charger, it can be like this

Sorry , I'm too lazy to draw a picture but you should get the idea. The last pin is bended. And it'll short-circuit with anything it touch. So, your bluetooth is unable to charge. The symptom is easy to notice. Normally the wall plug charger will have green light when plugged in. If you attach your earpiece and the green light goes off, you 're in trouble.

Conclusion

This is the second-best bluetooth in the world. It can't perform well in extreme noise environment. If you want the best one, go grab Aliph Jawbone ( either version I or II). It has best in business noise cancelling technique. The problem is
(1) If the headset doesn't touch your jaw. It's a piece of garbage.
(2) If the headset doesn't fit with your ear. It'll fall into (1) and turn into a garbage.
(3) The Jawbone 1 doesn't sale in Thailand. Jawbone 2 sale at some shops of True. It'll cost you 5,000 THB. And I think they have no local distributor .. so goodluck when it broke ( I don't think True will be able to fix)

This is the end to my bluetooth search. I hope this information help anyone who are seeking for bluetooth headset.

Let's see how she look.



The sale point of this mouse is here. A very small usb receiver. I compare it with 1THB coin.

Mouse Button Feature:

• Back-Forward Button (Can be config to use other functions)
  
• Document Flip Button (Can be config to use other functions)
• Free Wheel / Step Wheel

Pros:

• Small USB receiver
• Free Wheel + Step Wheel - The free wheel feature is great !
  
• Logitech standard - Product quality , driver capability .. etc.
• Precision on reflect surface is clearly better than other common mouse.
  

Cons:

• No middle click - the wheel click is used to switch between free wheel and step wheel.

Conclusion

The mouse is great. For people with small hand, the grip is very good. There's only one downside is no middle click. I have to config the forward button to act as middle click. The price is 49$ , not bad, not bad at all.

Rate 9/10 ... only if there's middle button.

Plantronics Discovery 925

In my previous post about bluetooth headset (Plantronics Voyager™ 855) , I've talked about the criteria of my bluetooth item. After 4 months of use, there 're few things happened.
1. I lost my Nokia N73. So, I've to use O2 Stealth and it's doesn't have big memory to hold music file. 128 MB mini-SD ... oh my..
2. I found that the 855 earbud don't fit with my ears. None of the size make me feel comfortable.
3. The earloop doesn't help.
4. It performs poorly when I'm using in crowded environment such as Department Store, Subway, Skytrain, Bus or Sidewalk. I 've no problem hearing voice from the person I'm talking to, but they barely hear mine. They told me the backgroud noise is so loud .. Audio IQ doesn't help filtering any backgroud voice !

I decided to looking for a new one. After surfing for information for a while and had a chance to try Plantronics 925. I think I'll give it a shot.



In the set are

4. Carrying Case with Rechargeable Battery
5. 3 Earbud
6. Manual




The carrying case is a mobile charger. When fully charged, it can provide one full charge to the headset.



The earpiece is very light and stylish.



I'll provide the pros and cons later. Give me sometime to use it in difference situations.

Being Smart, Being Professional

การเป็นคนเก่งไม่ใช่เรื่องยากอะไร แต่การเป็นมืออาชีพนั้นยากกว่ากันเยอะ
ในที่ทำงานของทุกคน มองไปรอบๆ ก็คงเจอคนมากมายที่รู้ว่าตัวเองต้องทำอะไร ในหน้าที่ที่ต้องรับผิดชอบ แต่จะมีสักกี่คน ที่สามารถทำได้มากกว่าแค่ทำเสร็จ ยกตัวอย่างง่ายๆ ด้วยความที่เป็นคน IT
1. ก่อนจะเริ่มทำงานสักอย่าง เขียน Specification และส่วนอื่นๆเช่น Programming Flow, Use Case, Error Code, Mock Up บ้างหรือเปล่า มองไปรอบๆ ในองค์กรณ์ที่ไม่บังคับว่าต้องเขียน จากการเดา น่าจะมีประมาณ 1% ของคนทำงานที่จะมีการเขียนเอกสารส่วนนี้
2. ก่อนเริ่มทำงาน ได้ถามคนใช้หรือเปล่า ว่าอยากได้อะไร ไม่ใช่แค่ถามว่า เอาโปรแกรมทำนู่นทำนี่นะ แตุ่ถามว่า โปรแกรมนี้ต้องทำอะไรได้บ้าง มีกี่หน้าจอ แต่ละหน้าจอมีกี่ปุ่ม แต่ละปุ่มเอาไว้ทำอะไร เป็นต้น
3. เขียนโปรแกรมแล้วเขียน Manual หรือเปล่า ว่ามีวิธีการใช้ หรือ วิธีการนำไปใช้ อย่างไรบ้าง
4. เวลามีปัญหาเกิดขึ้น เต็มใจรับผิดชอบทั้งๆที่รู้ว่าไม่ใช่ปัญหาที่ตัวเองทำบ้างไหม ซึ่งปรกติในการทำงาน จะมีปัญหามากมายที่เป็นปัญหาที่ลอยอยู่ คือไม่ได้ตกเป็นความรับผิดชอบของคนใดคนหนึ่งโดยตรง คนส่วนนึง จะคิดว่า ทำไมต้องแก้ ก็เขาไม่ได้ทำ ไม่ใช่ปัญหาของเขา แต่คนทำงานแบบมืออาชีพ ต้องคิดถึงผลของงานก่อน ว่าถ้าไม่แก้จะเกิดความเสียหาย ดังนั้นถึงไม่ใช่ปัญหาของเรา เราก็ต้องแก้ไข
5. เคยสนใจปรับปรุงบุคคลิกกันบ้างไหม เช่น เรื่องมารยาทการพูดจา น้ำเสียง การปฏิบัติตัวต่อหน้าคนหมู่มากและทัศนคติ บางคนพูดจาใช้คำพูดไม่ถูกต้อง น้ำเสียงไม่น่าฟัง ไม่มีครับ ไม่มีค่ะ บางคนกัดเล็บทั้งๆที่อยู่ในห้องประชุม พูดไปก็มี 108 1009 อย่าง จะเป็นมืออาชีพ it does matter นะครับ
6. มีความมั่นใจ ในงานที่ต้องทำ รู้รอบ พอที่จะตอบคำถามได้ ไม่ใช่ประชุมอยู่ เราเป็นคน Present แต่พอคนถามคำถาม ต้องหันไปหาคำตอบจากคนอื่น ไม่ใช่ว่าจะให้รู้ทุกอย่าง แต่ทำการบ้านไปก่อน นั่นคือมืออาชีพ
7. การเขียน Email คือการเขียน ใช้ภาษาเขียน ไม่ใช่ภาษาพูด เขียนเสร็จแล้ว ก่อนส่ง อ่านทบทวนอีกครั้งหนึ่ง การเขียนเสร็จแล้วกดส่งเลย มีโอกาสที่จะมีจุดผิดพลาดใน Email สูงมาก สละเวลาสัก 1 ใน 10 ของที่เขียน อ่านให้จบ แล้วคิดตามว่าเขียนแบบนี้คนอื่นอ่านรู้เรื่องไหม โทนของสิ่งที่เขียนเป็นอย่างไร ใส่อารมณ์เกินไปไหม หรือว่าใช้คำพูดเหมาะสม และชัดเจนพอหรือเปล่า หรือว่า ลืมแนบไฟล์ที่เขียนบอกว่าจะส่งให้ใน Email หรือเปล่า เป็นต้น

จริงๆมีอีกมากมาย คนเขียนก็ยอมรับว่ายังไม่ใช่มืออาชีพ แต่เป็นสิ่งที่มองเห็น และกำลังปรับปรุงตัวเองเพื่อไปถึงก้าวถัดไป .. ถ้ารักจะก้าวหน้า เป็นคนเก่งอย่างเดียวไม่พอหรอกเนอะ
