Dragon Quest III Reprise

Fallout 3

Immortal Throne

Titan Quest

Assassin's Creed

(1190 AD , Third Crusade in The Holy Land. Crusaders clash with Saracens for control of the Holy City, Jerusalem)

More on Oblivion

I got a new computer, a powerful one. So it's time to execute my mission. However, the first try is not give me any satisfaction. I think the control of this game about using spell (magic) is not good. There are like 100 spells out there in the game. However, you only have 8 shortcuts to bind everything with. It's obviously not enough. Plus, the shortcut key is Number 1-8 .. Well, difficult to use.

- Pure destruction mage does not quite good. Due to the bad shortcut I mentioned. I can not use spell effectively. Unlike diablo II, I can not devastate the monster like that in Elder Scrolls.
- Paladin (Warrior/Priest combination) is not good. It probably because the character's race I picked was not good. You either strong and stupid or weak and clever. There must be another race that have well-balance nature.
- Hunter is also hard to play .. monster is moving all the time and sometime strong. It's very difficult to aim at moving target. I think I've to acquire stealth skill and ambush them from a distance. However, it's not possible to use this technique in small cave. Maybe I should try bow/knife combo. Ambush with one arrow and then fight with knife.
- Summoner/Necromancer is unbelievable suck. The summon creature is just stupid. Moreover, you can summon one minion a time. Maybe I should combo it with hunter as well..

OK, the next character skills will be ..
Race : Wood Elf
Birthsign : Thief
Major Skills :
-Maskman
-Blade
-Sneak
-Light Armor
-Conjuration
-Alteration
-Illusion

Oblivion Complication

I've started playing The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion once again. It's much more complicated game than I ever thought.. For example, the leveling mechanism is extremely tricky. If you wanted to maximize your skills and stats on leveling, you have to play the game with a good plan in your mind ( pencil and paper/ save game a lot / stat tracker tools) . There is no simple way to build up your character if you wanted it to be good. You can't just play it, you have to plan it through and then execute it in discipline. I guess 95% of people will give up and just play the game.

Talk about leveling, I used to play a lot of RPG games that have burden level-up requirement. However, this is by far the most headache one. I play about 20 hour on first character to learn what is DO and what is DON'T. Also, to get familiar with combat system, quest, skill usage and character control mechanism. Then I spend around one day reading oblivion wiki, official game guide and many game websites. Still, I can't figured out how to build a character I need.

I think I needed more time, and hope I still have fire power to get it done.

DRM Part II

EA retools 'Spore' DRM activation features

However, EA did not accept that they should completely remove the DRM.
They said they will simplified the activation request process and asked people to understand their rights.

... -_-"

Let's see if customer can compromised .. I personally don't think anyone will.

Another example of DRM failure, SPORE

DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a way to protecting digitally product such as Music ( which can be ripped to MP3), Movies ( DVD,VCD which can be ripped to DivX or whatever encoding type.. ) and of course what I'm talking about here, a Game.

We know, back in the day, both music and movie industry applied DRM to their product and fail miserably because customer just rejected the idea, and thus rejected the DRM product. I can remember the DRM CD gone from shelf within blink of an eyes.

The industrial leading company come up with another fight by putting DRM MP3 online ... for customer to purchase .. ( via Amazon, iTune ... etc). People are getting anxiety they can't move the song to another computer or music device (iPod , for example). And recently the online music store anounced they are leaving DRM to NON-DRM online music store. OK, round two come to an end.

Now , SPORE , the game everyone should praise about, is going deep into hell. The game is sold with the restriction that

YOU CAN ONLY ACTIVATE THE GAME 3 TIMES.

After that, everytime you install and want to go online, you need to call EA (distributor) to get permission. OK, you should get the idea how customer will react. Amazon customer gave 1.5 star out of 5 (Based on 2400+ reviewer) . I can only shake my head.

This is one example of a review

First of all, the game incorporates a draconian DRM system that requires you to activate over the internet, and limits you to a grand total of 3 activations. If you reach that limit, then you'll have to call EA in order to add one extra activation. That's not as simple as it sounds, since when you reach that point EA will assume that you, the paying customer, are a filthy pirating thief.

This basically means that you are actually RENTING the game, instead of owning it. The game WILL stop to function in the future.

And one game flaw is also addressed very precise ..

Second, the game was dumbed down to oblivion. Evolution doesn't even matter anymore. For example, you can add as many legs to a creature as you want, but the multi-legged creature won't be any faster than a single-legged one with higher leg stats. This gameplay element makes "creating" your creatures entirely pointless (cosmetic only, because everything is based on stats), and brings you about the same amount of excitement as dressing up a plastic doll.

Oh yes .. I cound't agree more ! How can a single-legged man can compete running with a dog ? or a 1 year old baby that just started to be able to walk on his foot?

I love the game , but honestly I think there are ways to improve.
I hope Maxis (creator) and EA learn something from customer opinion. And actually DO something about it.

A Trailer..

"It has been said that in the end of all things, we would find a new beginning.
But as the shadow once again crawls across our world..
and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind.
The people pray for strength and guidance.
They should pray for the mercy of a swift death.
For I have seen what the darkness hides."

I, I don't think it's safe here.

A diehard fan would have known what's the preaches is about.
I know people wanted to turn back time. But this moment, for once, I would like to forward to the new beginning.

Diablo III

Blizzard announced that the sequel of Diablo series , Diablo III, will be released. After 10 years of waiting ...millions of speculations, Blizzard finally make it.

This is one of my favorite game. I'll definitely get the legit copy. The only question now is .. how long will it take for Diablo III to be released ? 1 year ? 1 and a half year ?

The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion

Finally... after long waiting, I 've a computer that actually can run the game !
It has been 18 months since the game was released. Back then there's no chance to play the game at acceptable quality. Let's see how long will I take to close down all oblivion gates :)

Dragon Quest VI : Maboroshi no Daichi

For the old school RPG gamer like me, this is the golden age. I remember back when I was young, my friend came to my house and showed me "Dragon Quest I", he told me it was the first RPG game of the console world. I tried and fell in love with it. And then time passed. Enix, the game maker, produced a series of Dragon Quest along the way.

The VI episode is the last episode on SNES console ( aka. Super Nintendo). I recently missed it, so I download ROM from internet and started up. Thanks god we have SNES emulator [ Snes9x ], otherwise I have to find Super Nintendo to play it, which is likely impossible. It took me about 10 days to finish. I did enjoy playing the game :) help me relax and forget all the problems ..

Now I'm moving back , playing Dragon Quest V. Later !
